ASDS Outreach: School-Wide Projects
Bean Bagging
Each week a different grade level accomplishes weekly bean bagging
during Friday mornings’ chapel-by-class. Weekly bean bagging
ensures a steady flow of food staples to hungry migrant families
within our community. Twenty-five pound bags of beans are purchased
at a local retailer and stored in our ASDS Outreach shed until
the beans are bagged each Friday. It is not uncommon for one class
to bag up to 1000 pounds of beans in one session, assisted by
dedicated parents and the commitment of their teachers.
Thanksgiving Food Boxes
During November each grade level collects boxes of food, meant
to represent a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The boxes of food
are delivered to families within our community in need of a warm
meal during the holiday.
Feliz Navidad Boxes
Each grade is assigned a specific food product to be brought in
during the month of December. In the end, the food products are
redistributed into boxes that consist of a variety of food encompassing
all the food groups. The food is delivered to Nancy Costello who
gives a food basket to a local migrant family in need of food.
Souper Bowl
While the rest of the country is gearing up for the “Super
Bowl” in January, All Saints’ Day School celebrates
the “Souper Bowl!” Students bring in one or more cans
of soup (or soup ingredients) to chapel and place them in the
box marked with the name of their favorite football team. The
real winner is the soup kitchen at Dorothy’s Place where
the soup will help feed the hungry and homeless.
Caring Cans
Lenten collecting for our sister school in Haiti is accomplished
through Caring Cans. The money collect supports the Haiti Goat
Project and the International Health Emissaries in Guatemala.
