Music

All Saints Day School takes pride in having a strong general music program. We strive to create an engaging, constructive, and memorable music experience for every student. The aim of our general music program is to build a foundation for a lifetime of musical creativity and enjoyment.

Singing is a central part of life at All Saints, and in that spirit, we sing songs from various genres, styles, and cultures throughout the year. Attention is given to expression, proper technique, and posture. In-tune singing and ear-training are developed through games and vocal warm-up activities. In addition to singing, students play musical instruments ranging from tambourines to barred Orff instruments (xylophones) to baritone ukelele.

ECC - Grade 2

During these early years, the focus in music class is on developing a sense of beat and tonality while having fun singing songs, playing games, and moving to music. These skills provide a foundation for reading, writing and performing from standard rhythmic and melodic notation in upper elementary years.

Grade 3 - Grade 5

In third grade, students begin learning recorder, and in fourth grade the students further hone their recorder skills. The fifth graders explore more advanced pieces on the barred Orff instruments and learn their first chords on baritone ukelele in the spring. Throughout the year, students are invited to bring in instruments they are studying outside of class (strings, wind instruments, etc.) to add to music class projects and grade level dramatic performances.

Grade 6 - Grade 8

The upper grade music program is geared to accommodate every student’s musical ability. Students are encouraged to voice their opinions and ideas about how the music in class can be interpreted and expressed. Independent thinking and confidence are practiced through improvisation games as well as formal performances. Another aspect of the upper grade music program is digging into the subtext of the music and lyrics presented in class as to gain a deeper understanding of the music. Movement and coordination are learned through rhythmic exercises and choreography incorporated into performance pieces. Above all else, students have the opportunity to be in a safe creative space where all musical ideas and opinions are heeded with respect and support.

2020 Lessons & Carols

On the Thursday before our Christmas break, and in a 'normal' year, we would have gathered at All Saints' Church and celebrated Lessons & Carols, our beloved, annual Christmas program.

Well, this school year we weren't able to get together in our festive attire and enjoy our students' voices in person. So instead, we distributed gift bags to each family, which contained a thumb drive with eight wonderful Christmas Carols and photos of our students in their holiday attire.

Here on campus, Mr. Marine and our students recorded in our outdoor chapel, our distance learners recorded at home, and together they collaborated and created eight wonderful tracks for you to enjoy! Click on the link below to enjoy these carols.

Fun with Distance Learning!
